The Waterworks Players next production is Nine to Five: the Musical. Based on the popular movie of the same name, the musical opened on Broadway in 2003 and received 15 Drama Desk Award nominations, the most ever for a production in a year, as well as 4 Tony Award nominations and one Grammy. Billed as a “hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era”, Nine to Five has made the transition from big screen comedy to rousing stage musical thanks to the inspired work of composer-lyricist Dolly Parton and book writer Patricia Resnick who co-authored the original screenplay.
As in the movie, the Nine to Five follows the lives of three office mates: Violet, Doralee, and Judy. This female trio ally themselves against their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, and bigoted boss Franklin Hart, Jr., president of Consolidated Industries. Their mundane and hellish work environment leads them to fantasize of getting revenge against their chief in the Rolodex era. Set in the late 1970s, Nine to Five is a hilarious story of friendship that is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic as the trio team up and take care of business.
Auditions will be Sunday August 11 at 7:30pm and Monday August 12 at 7:30pm, at the Waterworks Theatre on Industrial Park Road in Farmville. The cast includes numerous roles for both men and women of various ages.
Come prepared to sing either with your own music or read from the score. There will also be cold readings from the script.
In addition, we need a number of stage hands to assist during technical week rehearsals and the four public performances.
The show runs September 27, 28 and October 4, 5 at 8pm.
