The Waterworks Players are holding auditions on Sunday and Monday, 1 and 2 November, for an online production of A Christmas Carol, to be performed the second weekend of December.
A Christmas Carol, written 1843 by Charles Dickens, has been adapted many times for the stage, for radio, and for TV and film, and in 2020 it’s time to adapt it for a new medium. Don Blaheta has written an adaptation designed for performance via videoconferencing software and will direct the Waterworks production of this Christmas classic.
Principal cast includes the following characters (in each case character age is given; but actor ages may vary):
Ebenezer Scrooge. The central character in this drama is a man who has spent his entire adult life a bit too focused on his business. Character age late 40s or older.
Marley and Ghosts of Christmas. Four ghosts that visit Scrooge to try to convince him to turn his life around. Various character ages, and in this production, not necessarily all male.
Bob Cratchit. Scrooge’s long-suffering clerk, with a large family to support and not nearly enough money to do so. Character age mid-30s to 40s.
Emily Cratchit. Bob’s wife, manages the household and the kids. Also the narrator (probably). Character age mid-30s to 40s.
Fred. Scrooge’s nephew, who is much nicer to Ebenezer than he deserves. Character age mid-20s.
We also need a substantial ensemble with a range of ages (including several children), aiming for a cast size of 15-20. No prior acting experience required.
Auditions, rehearsals and all performances will be via Zoom. We especially encourage our Waterworks alumni who have moved away from Farmville to join us for this theatrical project!
Production plans are still being finalised, but those who audition should plan to be available on the evenings of 11 and 12 December and the week leading up to them. Rehearsals will in general be Sunday-Thursday evenings beginning at 7:30pm EST, but most cast members will not be called every night.
Auditions are at 7:30pm EST, on Sunday 1 November and Monday 2 November; those auditioning may join us for either or both of the nights. Join the Facebook event or contact us at info@waterworksplayers.org for the Zoom link.
