Waterworks Players announces upcoming auditions for Jack and Jill: the Troll’s Story, by Jack Shaw, with performances in the first half of December, to be directed by Kolby Logue and LeeAnn Schock. This show is a play in the British Panto style, a holiday tradition throughout the UK and since 2009 right here in Farmville. As a popular form of theater, panto combines song, dance, and slapstick comedy loosely based on traditional children’s stories. This year, Jack and Jill go up the hill to fetch a pail of water, but trapped down the well is Prince Jason, who has been turned into a troll, and a wizard played by a hapless stand-in actor. Can Jack and Jill help save the kingdom from Jason’s evil brother Jasper?
This year’s panto is sponsored by A Great Escape Spalon.
Auditions will be at 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14, at the Waterworks Theatre building (25 SMI Way, Farmville) and consist of cold readings from the script—come as you are, no preparation required! Performers should be comfortable performing for children, interacting with the audience, and singing (if you can sing in the shower, you can do this). Rehearsals will begin on October 27th.
The show runs on Friday evenings (December 5th & 12th) and Saturday afternoons and evenings (December 6th & 13th). For more information or to volunteer, contact the Waterworks Players at [email protected].
The cast of around 20 includes a range of roles appropriate to both experienced actors and folks who have never been on stage before. Actors of any age, gender, and race/ethnicity are encouraged to audition. All roles are available at this time.
Jack and Jill is presented by arrangement with Lazy Bee Scripts.
