Waterworks Players will soon hold auditions for the February production of Exit Laughing. A comedy by Paul Elliott, this production portrays what happens to friendship when a bridge playing foursome losses one of “the girls”. For Connie, Leona, and Lillie, three southern women from Birmingham, they decide to borrow Mary’s ashes from the funeral home for one last card game.
Dudley Sauve will direct the production that goes beyond a thirty-year bridge tradition to include a police raid, a stripper, and a whole new way of looking at all the fun you can have when you’re truly living.
We are seeking to cast four women and one man. The show’s ensemble includes Rachel Ann, a 20-something who has issues with life and men; Connie Harland, 50ish mother of Rachel; Leona, a close friend and member of the bridge club for over 30 years, a beautician by profession; and Millie, another friend who moves to her own special drummer. Rounding out the crew is a policeman, Bobby, 20ish young man of many talents.
Auditions will be at 7:30pm on Monday and Tuesday, December 27th and 28th at the Waterworks Theatre at 25 SMI Way, Farmville. There will be cold readings from the script. In addition, we need a number of stagehands to assist during technical week rehearsals and the five public performances.
Performances are on February 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th in the evenings, plus one afternoon matinee on February 20th.
Covid-19 policies: Waterworks Players requires that all performers are fully vaccinated before beginning rehearsals. Everyone should wear a mask or equivalent face covering (nose and mouth) to auditions. We will discuss additional Covid policies at the auditions; we continue to monitor the situation and want to provide a safe environment as we continue to offer live theatre.
