The Waterworks Players is holding auditions on July 10th for its August production of Fuddy Meers. Written by playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, Fuddy Meers was nominated for the 2000 Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Playwriting Award and has been produce over 200 times throughout the United States.
Lacy Klinger, in her Waterworks Players debut, will direct Fuddy Meers. This is a dark comedy centered on Claire, who has a rare form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep. Every morning she wakes up a blank slate. Her husband Richard comes in with coffee, explains her condition, and hands her a book filled with essential information related to her identity. One day a limping, lisping, half-blind, half-deaf man in a ski mask, pops out from under her bed and claims to be her brother, there to save her.
Subsequently, Claire is taken to the country-house of her mother, a recent stroke victim whose speech has been reduced to utter gibberish. Claire’s journey gets even more complicated when a dim-witted thug with a foul-mouthed hand puppet pops up at a window.
We are seeking 7 actors (4 men and 3 women) for the following roles:
- Claire – a generally sunny woman with amnesia
- Richard – a chatty, friendly, sometimes nervous man
- Kenny – a troubled, pot-smoking teen
- Limping Man – a lisping, limping, half-blind, half-deaf man with secrets
- Gertie – a clear-headed lady who’s had a stroke and can’t speak properly
- Millet – an odd man with a puppet
- Heidi- a tough woman
Auditions will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 10th at the Waterworks Theater. There will be cold readings from the script. In addition, we need a number of stage hands to assist during technical week rehearsals and the four public performances.
